Transcat Cat Door Clear Instructions
The Transcat Cat Door Clear is found in homes throughout Australasia. It has been on the market for over 30 years. In that time there have been significant improvements but the door still fits into the same size hole in glass. While it is designed primarily for glass it can also be fitted into other materials.
The Transcat Cat Door Clear is one of the largest cat doors on the market and it is also suitable (as a standard cat door) for miniature dogs. Made from tough, polycarbonate plastic. The Transcat Cat Door Clear can be used as a standard cat door or it can be up-graded to become an electronic cat door, the Transcat Especial Cat Door. This is a unique feature that allows first time cat door purchasers, who may be unsure whether they need an electronic cat door, to purchase the electronic component later and only if they need to.
Installation Instructions
Transcat Cat doors are designed to fit into glass doors and panels from 3-6mm of thickness and into double glazed panels of glass. Installation into most ranch slider type doors is possible where there is a clearance of at least 7mm on the inside of the sliding door and where the cat door is mounted on the outside pane of glass. Transcat Cat doors may also be fitted to solid wooden panels and doors.
Installation into Single Pane Glass
A circular hole is simply cut by a competent glazier and your Transcat Cat door fitted in the following manner:
- The hole in the glass should be 267mm (10 1/2") in diameter.
- The two main parts of the Cat Door are then clamped with the glass between. Use the four bolts supplied. IMPORTANT! Assemble the door so that the frame with the flap is on the outside.
- The place where the electronic box fits, on both the frame of the door and the ring, should be positioned at the bottom of the door. This part need to be removed to use the Door as an upgraded electronic Door.
- Nuts should be fitted finger tight only, to prevent unnecessary stress being place on the glass. This is sufficient to hold the door.
Installation into a Double Glazed Panel of Glass
A circular hole is simply cut by a competent glazier and your Transcat Cat door fitted in the following manner:
- The hole in the glass should be 275mm (10 7/8") in diameter. The hole should be sealed by the glazier to maintain the integrity of the double glazing.
- The two main parts of the Cat Door are then clamped with the glass between. Use the four bolts supplied. Longer bolts are available in lengths of 30, 35 and 40mm.
Installation into solid wooden panels or doors
Installation is very similar to fitting into single pane glass. The hole size should be approximately 247mm (9¾”) but the size and shape of the hole is not as critical as it is for installation into glass, provided that the flap can swing unhindered.
The ring is not required. Fit the Door with self tapping screws (not supplied) to the face of the panel. The Transcat Especial (electronic) Cat Door requires a 3-6mm thick supporting material such as plywood instead of glass. This is positioned over a suitably sized hole cut in the wooden door.
Cleaning
Remove the door from where it is installed and wash in soapy water using a soft cloth. Do not use spray on lubricants.
